- Orthopaedic Surgeon, NZ pioneer in key-hole joint surgery, and past-president of NZ Orthopaedic Association. Past senior clinical lecturer in musculo-skeletal medicine at Wellington medical school.
- Working for a healthy climate and healthy people --executive member of OraTaiao: The NZ Climate & Health Council 420 NZ medical professionals.
- Promoting a safe cycle & walkway around Wellington’s beautiful harbour—A member of ‘The Great Harbour Way’ trust.
- One of the founding organizers of Wellington Ciclovia, a car-free celebration of all kinds of active transport.
- Advocate for health through regular cycling on safe cycleways-- member of Cycle Aware Wellington.
- Working for a nuclear weapon-free world. Past member and Wellington committee president of Nobel Peace Prize winning International Physicians for the Prevention of Nuclear War ( IPPNW).
- Preserving Wellington’s superb harbour open space and views: past executive member of Waterfront Watch and on Wellington City Council’s Citizens’ Advisory Group on the Waterfront.
- Greening of Wellington city--past member of Chaffer's Park Make it Happen which was responsible for the creation of Waitangi Park.
- Putting the urgent case for all-electric public transport for Wellington, including light rail for urban renewal and retaining the trolley buses meantime-- Member of FIT Wellington: Fair Intelligent Transport.
- Enhancing our healthy environment and preserving our native flora and fauna—long-term member of Forest & Bird, and volunteer guide at Zealandia.
- Promoting clean waterways with swimmable rivers for all—long-term member of Fish & Game (NZ), and Wellington Fly-fishing Club.
- Working with Wellington sport--past medical officer for the Wellington Rugby Union. Past member of the NZ Sports Medicine Federation ( now Sports Medicine NZ). Previous Otago rugby representative.
- Supporting the arts in Wellington--long-term member of Wellington choirs (Orpheus & Bach). Served on Orpheus committee.
- Asking the government for a risk assessment of imminent risks to New Zealand--member of Wise Response Society, a broad coalition of New Zealanders.
